How Does Egoscue Institute Certified Postural Alignment Therapy Work?
Postural Alignment Therapy focuses on your body as a whole and treating the underlying cause of your pain and injuries. Many types of chronic pain and injuries are caused by the slow deterioration of your posture and the only way to get complete, long-lasting pain relief is by correcting your postural imbalances through exercise therapy. Surgery, manipulation, injections, braces, exercises, and stretches designed to target your symptoms are only going to offer, at best, short term relief because they are doing nothing about correcting the cause of your pain – your postural alignment.
Using Posture Exercises
At Oregon Exercise Therapy we specialize at looking at and treating your entire body, not just your symptom. Matt, as an Egoscue Institute® certified Postural Alignment Specialist and Advanced Exercise Therapist, has over 20 years’ experience helping clients get amazing results using Postural Alignment Therapy. Your body’s alignment, just like your car’s alignment, is designed to be symmetrical left to right and balanced. When your body gets out of postural alignment because of your work, lifestyle, activities, and accidents, many systems in your body become compromised (musculoskeletal, nervous, cardiorespiratory, digestive) and symptoms (joint pain, nerve impingement, breathing issues, circulatory problems) will start to appear. Most treatments for these pain symptoms only focus on eliminating the symptom, not fixing the root cause of the problem. Postural Alignment Therapy gives you the tools (specific posture exercises and stretches) to start correcting your posture and eliminating your pain for good.
What Will Happen During My Appointment?
During your one hour Zoom appointment you will learn why you hurt, a game plan to get 100% better, a personalized set of exercises to get started on right away, and peace of mind knowing that you will get better. You will meet one-on-one live on video with a Egoscue Institute® certified Postural Alignment Specialist (PAS) and Advanced Exercise Therapist (AET) who will truly listen to you, your goals, and your expectations and formulate a plan to help you achieve them. As a team, you and your therapist will evaluate your posture, gait, and various functional tests to determine the root cause of your pain and limitations. Then you will go through a series of exercises (e-cises or Egoscue-cises), created specifically for you, that will start correcting your posture and begin eliminating your pain. After your appointment, you will be emailed your menu of ecises with pictures, descriptions and videos making it easy to continue on your own.
During each follow-up appointment we will discuss your progress, answer any questions you have, review your current e-cise menu, and then go through any new e-cises that will help you to continue to improve. Each follow-up appointment is essential to your continued progression toward a pain free and active life. Postural changes happen over time and take time to correct. The average client will use about 16 sessions in the first 6 months to get pain free and back to doing the activities and sports they love. The clients who do the best long-term, do an appointment once every 1-3 months after they are pain free.
