E-cise of the Month: Floor Block

9/28/2017

The Floor Block is a great e-cise to improve upper body posture and alignment. It is very common for people of all ages to have some degree of thoracic kyphosis, rounded shoulders, and forward head posture. The Floor Block will help correct all these imbalances which can lead to decreased pain, better breathing, less headaches, and improved athletic performance.

To do the Floor Block you will need two Egoscue Small Foam Blocks and an open floor.
Picture
Lie down on your stomach with your legs extended and feet pigeon toed. Extend your arms overhead with your forearms resting on the small foam blocks. Extend your elbows and make a golfer's grip with your hands.
A golfer's grip consists of bending your fingers so the tips of your fingers touch the callus of your hand and extending your thumb outwards. Your first knuckles should form a straight line with the back of your hand.

Rest your forehead on the floor and externally rotate your arms so your thumbs point outward. Focus on rotating your arms from your shoulder not just your forearm. Breathe and hold for 1 minute.

After 1 minute, move the blocks and your arms out to a 45 degree angle. Focus on externally rotating your arms and relaxing the rest of your body. Breathe and hold for 1 minute.

For the third and final position, you will move the blocks out wider so your arms are at a 90 degree angle. Again focus on externally rotating your arms while relaxing your lower body. Breathe and hold for the final minute.

You can purchase small foam blocks here if needed.

Try the Floor Block and let me know how it impacts your posture and what you notice in the comments below.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS HAVE TO SAY

I really just wanted to express my gratitude for what you do and your great help. And, great help it was!! When one is in constant great pain for as long as I was and so desperate for help...words cannot express what I want to say....how can I thank you enough? You helped change my life.
– Carrie
I feel soooo limber and free in my hip movements and relaxed in my low back. Outstanding and I'm very impressed with the pdf's and the videos, great support to the client. Wonderful job, keep up the great job. – Mike
It is amazing! I've been in pain for 5 years and worked with other therapists and no one has been able to help me. Working with you I am 95% pain free! It feels so good to not have any pain and be able to walk and do things I haven't been able to do for years. Thank you so much! - Joni
